Candidates should commit to one 4 hour shift a week for a minimum of one complete semester (4 months)
Students must be dedicated to their volunteer pair

We routinely monitor hours of all our volunteers. Volunteers with unsatisfactory hours will not be selected to continue in upcoming semesters
2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine is required to continue/start volunteering in September (volunteers may only begin 14 days after receiving their 2nd dose)
Volunteers must submit their official proof of receiving the COVID-19 vaccination from the government (document with a QR code)
Shift 1: 8am-12pm
Shift 2: 12-4pm
Shift 3: 4-8pm
Shift 4: 8pm-12am
It is crucial that volunteers commit consistently to one 4 hour shift, because they will be partnered with another volunteer and a repeated presence and familiarity with the role is essential to gain the most from the experience. 1 of the 4 hours is dedicated to shadowing the ICU staff. The teams of two are essential to ensure that there is always at least 1 face present at the front desk while the other volunteer shadows or completes other tasks, as well as to to provide support to each other in the emotional ICU environment.
We have a limited number of positions available and demand often outweighs supply. As such, no position is guaranteed and we appreciate your understanding and patience if you are not placed right away or at all.
Deadlines by Semester:
July 20th for the Fall Semester (September - December)
November 20th for the Winter Semester (January - April)
March 20th for the Summer Semester (May - August)
Before the deadline, new applicants need to
Submit the required JotForm, hospital forms, and documentation (outlined later in Step 1)
If your application is accepted, before the start of the following semester (1st of Sept, Jan, May) new applicants need to
Give a minimum of 3 shift availabilities for the upcoming semester in the JotForm form provided via email at the end of each semester (keep in mind that volunteers are only assigned 1 shift, thus a weekly commitment of 4 hours)
Returning/continuing volunteers need to
Update and confirm their availabilities/intentions for the upcoming semester
Current volunteers also have the option to "skip" semesters (if a volunteer feels that they cannot balance ICUBP volunteering with other commitments in an upcoming semester, they can skip that semester of volunteering and return in future semesters)
Please note that applications are on a rolling admission and priority is given to those who apply in advance.
Applicants may give in their forms and information past these deadlines, but it is unlikely that they will be able to begin volunteering and shadowing for the upcoming semester. We encourage applicants to get in their forms in advance to increase their chance of receiving a position in the future. Step 1 — Forms & Documents

After submitting, you should receive an email with further details regarding the interview.

All the forms (MUHC, MCH, & JGH) are all required by the hospitals you will be volunteering in.
Since we cannot predict in which hospital you will be placed, you must fill out all forms.
Step 2 — Interview
If your application has been accepted, you will be invited for a brief interview hosted by Medical Direction (for McGill students) or MedSpecs (for Concordia, UdeM, and other University students). This interview requires no preparation as we simply want to get to know you better. The only exception to this rule is that we ask our applicant's to review our website, as we are frequently asked questions that are covered in detail on our website. Questions regarding website content (the ICUBP's origins and mission, volunteer role, timeline, etc.) may be asked during the interview.
If you do not receive a response three weeks after your interview, please send us a reminder at firstname.lastname@example.org specifying the date you received your interview and the name
of your interviewer (if possible).
Interview decisions are based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to:
Precision and content of the application portfolio
Interview professionalism (arriving on time, respectful, etc.)
Bilingual communication (english & french)
Knowledge of the program
Please keep in mind that the application process is competitive and there are a limited number of positions per hospital. The final interview decisions are final and made by the ICUBP executive team. Therefore, any inquiries regarding the final decision should be made to the ICUBP: email@example.com.
Step 3 — Orientation
If you pass your interview, you may be invited for an orientation (depending on the number of positions available at the hospitals) at the designated hospital. We normally hold 2 orientations per hospital at the beginning of every semester
