"[...]". "After having volunteered at a retirement home for 3 years now, I have had the opportunity to interact with many of the residents living there. I usually volunteer with the residents living with some sort of dementia, such as alzheimer’s. Seeing how difficult their life is because of their dementia and their old age made me realize how fast and unpredictable life is. However, despite that, the residents I interact with are always full of life and spirit. Every week, they are always excited to see me and do activities and interact with each other. It never ceases to amaze me because they remember me even though they have some sort of neurodegenerative disease. Volunteering at the retirement home has opened my eyes in so many ways. The residents have taught me so much valuable knowledge. They taught me to be more thankful about life, to be grateful for my family and friends and that no matter what life throws at you, there is always something positive you can look at in your life."
