"Volunteering at the ICU during the pandemic has been a really eye-opening experience! The ICU usually has a good amount of COVID patients each week, and so I have quite a bit of interaction with the visitors of these patients, and sometimes I get to hear about their stories. At the beginning, when the ICU started filling up with COVID patients, it was a bit daunting, but I came to realize that, while the pandemic is very much real and scary, proper protocol and social distancing go a long way. I think the most valuable thing I’ve gained is the exposure to the different people, putting faces to the pandemic. If not for my time here, COVID would just be a scary news broadcast to me.”

"Faire du bénévolat à l'unité de soins intensifs pendant la pandémie a été une expérience vraiment éclairante ! L'USI accueille généralement un grand nombre de patients atteints de la COVID-19 chaque semaine, et j'ai donc beaucoup d'interactions avec les visiteurs de ces patients, et j'ai parfois l'occasion de les écouter raconter leur histoire. Au début, lorsque l'USI a commencé à se remplir de patients atteints du COVID, c'était un peu décourageant, mais j'ai fini par comprendre que, même si la pandémie est bien réelle et effrayante, un protocole approprié et la distanciation sociale sont très utiles. Je pense que la chose la plus précieuse que j'ai obtenue est l'exposition aux différentes personnes, mettant des visages sur cette pandémie. Si je n'avais pas passé du temps ici, la COVID-19 ne serait pour moi qu'une émission d'information effrayante."
